Submit a Comment on the Proposed Changes to the Federal Poverty Level Calculation

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has proposed changes to the federal poverty threshold calculation. This change could result in drastic harm to millions of low-income and working class families who rely on critical health and nutrition programs.

Eligibility for programs like Medicaid, school meals, and insurance subsidies are determined annually by the federal poverty line, which is adjusted for inflation. OMB’s proposed changes to the way inflation is calculated would, over time, likely result in fewer citizens, including children, seniors, and adults with disabilities accessing needed benefits.
